LUDHIANA: Two delivery boys of an online shopping site made off with brand new mobile phones and tablets after replacing them with soap bars in the parcels that they were supposed to deliver to customers across the city. Later, they used to sell the gadgets.
The mischief came to the fore after the CIA staff arrested the delivery boys and their accomplice and recovered 15 mobile phones of various companies on Thursday.
ASI Jaswinder Singh of CIA staff-I said Harjinder Singh and Rahul Kumar worked as delivery boys with a courier company and use to deliver parcels of online shopping website. They used to open the parcels and replace valuables with soap bars.
The official said the accused used to sell mobile phones in the market taking help of Amandeep Singh.
The CIA arrested the trio from Transport Nagar where they had gone to sell stolen mobile phones.
The ASI said the accused failed to produce documents of the phones. Later, the accused confessed to their crime and narrated their modus operandi.
A case under Sections 379 (theft), 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC has been registered against the trio at police station division number 6.
